The Chula Vista Animal Care Center comprises 112 exterior dog kennels, five individual cat wards, a clinic, public education room, as well as administrative and clinical support spaces. The ideal climatic conditions of Southern California allow the kennels to be in an outdoor, heavily landscaped park with trellised walkways, and an amphitheater for educational presentations. The cat adoption mall is featured upon entry, displaying the cats in a cheerful, well-lit, comfortable environment. We utilized integral color concrete to minimize the institutional feeling experienced at other shelters. The center won a beautification award from the City of Chula Vista.
