Chula Vista, CA
The Otay Recreation Center in Chula Vista was designed in a day-long-on-site workshop with City staff, and interested local community members. Planned to function as a much-needed after school “hangout” and neighborhood center, the 15,000 SF facility includes a gymnasium, multi-purpose game room, and weight training area, situated around a courtyard reminiscent of Spanish hacienda planning. The building's dramatic geometric forms and vibrant color scheme were a direct result of workshop input, and reflect the vitality of the neighborhood. The project was awarded the Richard Welsh Memorial Award by the City of Chula Vista.
